Does this double barrel retirement problem drag you down too?
One of my coaching clients entered my Retirement Coaching Asylum armed with not one but two problems. Or what I call a ‘double barrel retirement problem.’
First, his job pisses him off more and more. Well, senior management pisses him off more and more, truth be told. That’s because the big wigs give all the complex and challenging work (i.e. the more interesting and satisfying work) to contractors who charge a fat hourly rate.
These younger, more pricey contractor bucks are putting their kids through private school, while my client is stuck in Siberia, underappreciated and doing all the mundane work. And because he values being useful and making an impact through his work, it’s like eating glass for him.
But that’s only barrel one.
Barrel two?
He doesn’t know if he had the cashola to kiss his salary (and therefore senior management) goodbye. What’s more, he’s too scared to ask one of the financial planners in town to review his financial situation. Scared because he’ll feel like a failure if he doesn’t have enough cashola.
What a pickle, right?
But you may find it reassuring to know that I hear iterations of this double barrel ‘work sucks and I’m too afraid to suss out if I can retire’ problem time and again.
And I always say, the problem spoken about can be the problem solved. That’s the magic of my Retirement Coaching Asylum.
Anyhow, if you got problems, my Asylum may have room for you:
