Reader reveals secret to a satisfying retired life
Another reader story rolled into my in-box over the weekend. It was a long one, too. Which I applaud, because nobody’s life can be boiled down to a paragraph or three.
Anyhow, here’s the highlights (including the secret to you living your own satisfying retired life):
“During the last 10 years [while still working] I experienced some of the most stressful years of my life and the most unethical business practices you can image.
“Now I live my life the way I want to and I never again have to consider ‘selling my soul’ to the devil to just keep my job.
“I’ve always loved making stuff, solving problems and being a little bit different. Now I: Make fairy castles, construct mini gardens, weld up simple junk art and scatter it around my property… [and he goes onto mention many other fun and left-of-centre activities that obviously fill his emotional cup]
“And: I do all that with the same integrity I took to my work for all those years…
“Now people say ‘…you’re so lucky’. I say; ‘luck’s got nothing to do with it. Live your own life and make your own decisions.”
That’s darn tooting right, too!
Live your own life and make your own decisions.
Which for you may mean many powerful changes in retirement. For instance, it may mean living out your calling, aligning your day with your values, defining your own integrity (like the reader above), setting boundaries and tolerating nothing, and giving up (without remorse) those things (and perhaps people) who don’t serve you.
It’s up to you and what’s right for you, obviously.
