The right and wrong retirement questions

Getting asked “What are you going to do in retirement?” can feel like being asked again“What do you want to be when you grow up?” or “When will you settle down?”

Maybe you don’t want to say what you’ll do in retirement, or maybe you’re figuring it out. But worse is when the person asking the question then says to you something like “How can you not know??!!” or “What you must do is…”

That crap starts with the wrong questions.

So what are the right questions?

They’re the ones, I believe, that can improve your life.

For example, “What pursuits can give you that sense of usefulness and purpose you desire in retirement?” or “Where will your sense of place where you’re connected to yourself and the people around you be without the office?” or “How will you balance your desire in retirement for routine and structure with the need for something unexpected and fun to happen in your day?”

Of course most people won’t ask you the right questions.

But you can ask yourself.

Or get me to ask you in my Retirement Coaching Asylum.
